U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects rapid growth for Environmental Engineering employment

The Occupational Outlook Handbook is a nationally recognized source of career information, distributed every two years by the United States Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The 2004-2005 edition states that while:

"Overall engineering employment is expected to grow more slowly than the average for all occupations over the 2002-12 period ... Employment of environmental engineers is expected to increase much faster than the average ... Much of the expected growth will be due to the emergence of this occupation as a widely recognized engineering specialty rather than as an area that other engineering specialties, such as civil engineers, specialize in."
