The Earth and Environmental Engineering Minor Columbia engineering students can broaden their education and enhance their career prospects by learning how the resources of the Earth - minerals, energy, water - can be utilized wisely, that is with full consideration of the effects of human activities on the environment. You can do it by registering for a Minor in Earth and Environmental Engineering, a program offered in collaboration with Civil Engineering. This program will be of value to SEAS undergraduates who want to enrich their understanding of the effects of human activities, including the production of primary materials and managing of wastes, construction, transportation and other infrastructure on the environment. It also introduces the available technologies for resource recovery from wastes, pollution prevention and environmental remediation of land and water resources. This program will be of value to SEAS undergraduates who plan to pursue careers in industry, business, and government agencies concerned with the effect of the production and use of primary materials on environmental quality. The technologies developed for the exploration, extraction, and processing of minerals and fuels are also applicable to resource recovery from wastes, pollution prevention and environmental remediation of land and water. The Earth and Environmental Engineering minor does not require additional course credits. It requires taking six courses as follows:
