Columbia's SIAM student chapter (CUSIAM) was initiated in 2004 by applied math major Pearl Flath (CC '05) and Professor David Keyes, who became the Vice President-at-Large of SIAM in January 2006. CUSIAM aims to help graduate and undergraduate students discover research and educational opportunities across Columbia, throughout the NYC area, and internationally.
CUSIAM has hosted talks by external speakers from industry, academia, and finance; examples can be found on our events page. CUSIAM also facilitates connections with industry via our math-startup meetups, in collaboration with Jonah Perretti, cofounder of Huffington Post. To help students and faculty in classes with (or research projects involving) MATLAB, CUSIAM also launched the SIAM help room. (Email mathelp@columbia.edu for more information.)
Please join the CUSIAM google group to remain informed about future events and to suggest new ideas of your own!
